Each set of prayer beads is created as a piece of art, responding to the unique piece of wood that I am working with. All the wood I use is Oak that has been discovered buried beneath the earth from trees that died and fell thousands of years ago. The discovery of the wood is a by-product of land being cultivated.

Preserved under anaerobic conditions for thousands of years the colour of the wood turns into a range of greys, blacks and browns. Having been buried for so long the wood holds a resonance of deep silence.

In Sanskrit the word for Oak is, ‘Duir’ (door), Oak is recognised as a sacred spiritual gateway. It is cherished across the world as a symbol of wisdom, strength and endurance.

With each bead individually hand-carved it takes approximately seven to ten days to complete one set of thirty-three beads. Each set is finished with a faceted gemstone set into the top bead.

A set of 33 beads fits comfortably in one’s pocket, a constant reminder of one’s practice. The sturdy and tactile form makes them particularly desirable to hold onto, day and night.

The Prayer Beads are designed to last a lifetime, holding all the spiritual energy of your prayers and practices, this way just holding them can be of benefit.
